It has been 17 years since the European Court of Human Rights for the first time held
that the protection of journalistic sources is part of press freedom as
protected by Article 10 of the Convention (ECHR). The case at hand
dealt with a civil dispute between a journalist (William Goodwin) and a
company about which he published sensitive information.
